What is AESC
The Association of Executive Search Consultants (AESC) is the professional association that represents the leading retained executive search consulting firms worldwide. Founded in 1959, the AESC currently has 160 member firms, which employ more than 3,000 professionals in over 700 offices worldwide.
The AESC is governed by an international Board of Directors, and has a full-time President and staff, with a main office in New York and a representative office in Brussels.

Why the AESC
The AESC and its member firms recognize that the reputation of the executive search profession rests upon the quality and integrity of relationships with clients, candidates, employees and the public. As a worldwide association, the AESC strives to enhance the professionalism of its members and promote the highest professional standards in retained executive search.

Selected members
The Association applies rigorous criteria before a firm is accepted into membership, in order to ensure the strictest adherence to the highest professional quality standard in the industry. Criteria include: consultant evaluation, references from other Executive Search firms and clients alike, on-site visit, procedures audit. All members must subscribe and be committed to the AESC Code of Ethics and Professional Practice Guidelines.

Code of Ethics
The AESC adopted a Code of Ethics in 1977, which outlines the fundamental principles that guide executive search consultants in performing their duties and conducting relationships with client and candidate communities.

Professional Practice Guidelines
In 1984 the AESC also developed a set of Professional Practice Guidelines (revised in 2002). These represent the AESC's view of contemporary best practices and exemplify the standards of professionalism expected of executive search consultants.
